Joukon polku

The trail from the end of the Vajatie is suitable for all types of hikers, including families with children. The starting point is also the parking lot of the Vinkerlahti marina and the Girls’ Park. The short, approximately one kilometre long shore path takes you to the bird tower at Vinkerlahti in Nurmes, with beautiful views of the surrounding nature, Puu-Nurmes and the harbour.

When we arrive in Nurmes on Friday evening – after a three-hour drive – and take our first walk on the Jouko trail, I almost can’t believe what I’m seeing: after a few minutes’ walk, I’m in the middle of a landscape glowing golden. It’s beautiful as hell!

Hiking tip! Pack a thermos of hot chocolate and fresh buns in your rucksack and enjoy a picnic lunch in the bird tower, admiring the stunning scenery. Of course, birdwatchers will also want to bring binoculars.
