Get there by boat
Take a boat across the archipelago of Pielinen and enjoy warm summer days in the Bomba tourist area. On the way, experience the atmosphere of the Puu-Nurmes wooden house area, the Karelian architecture of the Bomba house and the national landscapes of Koli.
Harbours
In Nurmes you will find two passenger harbours, which are well suited for overnight stays due to their sheltered location. One harbour is located near Kauppala and the other on the shore of Break Sokos Hotel Bomba, both on the shores of the Pielinen.
Lake Pielinen is often described as a desert lake, with rugged dunes lining its rocky shores. Because of the lake’s long length, the landscape of the islands varies as well, with the islands becoming hilly at the northern end of Pielinen. Depending on the size of your boat, you can visit these unique islands, such as Kynsisaari, Uramonsaari, Paalasmaa and Hiekkasaari. You can also try fishing on Lake Pielinen, where you can catch pike, perch, pike and pike-perch, among others.
Port of Nurmes
During the summer, the harbour is a pleasant place to spend time, with locals enjoying picnics in the park, swimming in the beach and enjoying the kiosk. The perfect summer evening stroll, the Rantaraitti runs across the harbour, continuing along the shoreline of the Lake Pielinen around Kauppala. The nearest grocery stores, restaurants, shopping facilities and Puu-Nurmes with its attractions are within 200 metres walking distance from the harbour. The historic atmosphere of the Puu-Nurmes wooden house district is delightful with its fire bricks, ridge-top lake views and the services of Nurmes’ own cultural centre, Nurmes House.
A short boat ride away, you can land on Kynsisaari Island, which offers beautiful views of Lake Pielinen from the top of the dike. Blueberries and lingonberries can be enjoyed in the woods at the island’s campfire site, along with picnic snacks.
