Kötsi museum
In the renovated Kötsin Museum, you can learn about the history of the Nurmes region through a variety of interesting exhibitions. The museum’s main exhibition tells about the Karelian immigrants, the Palmi Romany family, the development of local transport and business life, and about the artist Alma Pääkkönen from Nurmes to the guerrilla leader Olli Tiainen. In addition, the museum has changing theme exhibitions. You can find current exhibitions and event information on the museum’s website.
In the Kötsin Museum, you can also delve into the history of Nurmes through short films and documentaries. It is possible to watch the films independently in the museum’s miniature cinema Kino-Sointu or with the assistance of a museum curator from the wall in the lobby. The films on display include Folk healing in Nurmes, Kauppalantalo’s history and Mysterious Kötsinmäki -short documentaries (duration approximately 10–15 minutes).
